Which IELTS Writing Checker Is Most Accurate? Testing 73 Real Essays
I tested three popular IELTS writing scoring tools against 73 official essays with verified band scores from Cambridge IELTS and official practice materials. Here are the results: • IELTS Writing Checker had an average error of 0.49 bands, with 78.1% of scores within ±0.5 bands. • Engnovate showed an average error of 0.90 bands, with 38.4% within ±0.5 bands. • Writing9 averaged a 1.62 band error, with 24.7% within ±0.5 bands. Writing9’s lack of chart-image support affected Academic Task 1 testing. This comparison covers only these three tools and may vary with different essays. Full methodology and limitations are available. Feedback on the approach or suggestions for other scoring tools to test are welcome.
