Top JAMB Scorer Omatseye Utieyinoritseseola Detained, Faces Risk of Missing Crucial MBC Exam
The University of Benin Medical Student Association (UBEMSA) has raised alarm over the detention of their colleague, Omatseye Matthew Utieyinoritseseola (MED240), a top performer with a 4.98 CGPA. Matthew was Delta State’s highest JAMB scorer in 2024 and the first candidate ever to score 100 in a subject, as confirmed by the exam board. He also ranks among UBEMSA’s top footballers. Since May 14, Matthew has been held at the Delta State CID for over two months and recently spent nearly a month at Ogwashi-Uku Correctional Centre. His continued detention now threatens his chance to sit for the MBC test scheduled for June 5, 2026. UBEMSA has informed university leadership and calls on the management and relevant authorities to protect Matthew’s academic rights and ensure due process is followed.
