Origins and Nature of Spirits: Insights from Ifa

I asked Ifa about where spirits come from, but was told the answer stops at Osa Ogunda, the Odu of creation. According to Ifa, one spirit was formed using what existed here. Another was sent to keep it company, along with millions of other species. Creation began with a man, a woman, and countless other beings. More humans join as needed, but it always starts with two. Spirits don’t sleep. They never tire, so they don’t rest like many material beings do. They share knowledge freely. They can access any information ever known on Earth—what some call the Akasha—but not beyond our world. They read closed books and even minds. Spirits are not omnipotent in the sense of having no restraints. They cannot initiate evil; any harm comes through their human incarnations. Evil acts by recruiting other spirits but is rooted in human choice. If our civilization faced extinction, spirits would work to prevent it. Odi Obara, the first human civilization, remains protected and thriving. If the sun went out, a new one would appear to avert disaster.

It's intriguing that Ifa stops the origin story at Osa Ogunda, without detailing events after the first man arrived in creation.

I'm not convinced the idea of one spirit and its companion explains the necessity of millions of species at creation.

Maybe studying other Odu connected to Osa Ogunda could shed light on omitted details and offer a clearer understanding of spirit origins.
