Onuachu Brace Fires Trabzonspor to 10th Turkish Cup Title
Paul Onuachu starred as his two goals secured a 2-1 win over Konyaspor in Friday’s final, giving Trabzonspor their first Turkish Cup since 2020. Chibuike Nwaiwu played the full 90 minutes, while Anthony Nwakaeme remained an unused substitute. Onuachu ended a seven-match goal drought with a brilliant volley in the 18th minute, then calmly converted a penalty in the 58th after Konyaspor had missed their spot kick. This triumph marks Trabzonspor’s 10th Turkish Cup since their maiden win in 1977. Onuachu now boasts three European cup titles, adding this to his Danish Cup win with Midtjylland (2019) and the Belgian Cup with Genk (2021). He also finished the season as joint top scorer in the Super Lig with 22 goals and two assists in 30 league matches. Both players have earned Super Eagles call-ups. Onuachu will face Poland in Warsaw on June 3 and Portugal in Leiria on June 10. Nwaiwu was also named for the Unity Cup semi-final against Zimbabwe on May 26, with the winner to face Jamaica or India in the final.
