Flamingos Secure 3-2 Win Over Benin in U17 World Cup Qualifier First Leg

Nigeria’s U17 women’s team, the Flamingos, claimed a narrow 3-2 victory against the Benin Republic Amazons in Ikenne. Benin opened the scoring in the 16th minute through Romaine Gandonou’s powerful strike. Queen Joseph equalised in the 26th minute with a precise lob. Kindness Ifeanyi then turned the game in Nigeria’s favour, first creating a lead in the 62nd minute and later nodding home from a corner to make it 3-2. The return leg is set for next Saturday in Lomé, Togo. The aggregate winner will book a spot at this year’s U17 Women’s World Cup finals in Morocco.

A 3-2 win shows they can score, but conceding two goals might expose defensive weaknesses going forward.

They might celebrate this result too much; a one-goal lead can disappear quickly if they don't tighten up at the back.

Focusing on defensive drills and set-piece organization should be their priority before the second leg in order to preserve the lead.
