Senate Approves N2.285trn 2026 FCT Budget with 76% for Capital Projects

The Senate has passed the 2026 statutory appropriation for the Federal Capital Territory, setting total expenditure at N2.285 trillion. Capital projects account for 76.19% of the allocation, while recurrent costs make up 23.8%. The approved figures include N165.7 billion for personnel expenses, N378.2 billion for overheads and N1.741 trillion for new infrastructure and development across Abuja and its satellite towns. Lawmakers emphasised that the proposal followed extensive consultations with FCTA officials and meets constitutional requirements. During plenary, senators described the budget as balanced and development-oriented. Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin hailed it as “top notch,” praising its strong focus on infrastructural transformation, while other lawmakers noted its potential to boost security and growth in the territory.
