Super Eagles Aim to Avenge Their Only Middle East Defeat

Super Eagles Aim to Avenge Their Only Middle East Defeat

The Super Eagles have rarely faltered against Middle Eastern sides. Across seven senior matches, they boast three wins, three draws and just one loss. They’ve conceded only three goals in those meetings. Today, March 27, Nigeria face Iran in Antalya. On March 31, they meet Jordan. The latter fixture carries extra weight: Jordan handed Nigeria its sole Middle East defeat in 2013. Nigeria’s record in the region includes a 1-0 win over Iran in 1998, a 0-0 World Cup draw with Iran in 2014, 0-0 and 2-2 stalemates against Saudi Arabia, a 2-0 win over Yemen in 2015, and a 1-0 victory over Syria in 1987. This international window offers the Super Eagles a rare chance to maintain their dominance and settle the score with Jordan.

It's interesting they've only conceded three goals in seven matches, yet losing once shows they aren't invincible.

I no too dey buy this revenge narrative; the coach's game plan will matter more than chasing old losses.

Focusing on defensive drills and set-piece routines could be key before facing Jordan on March 31.
