STDs You Can Still Catch Despite Perfect Condom Use
Condoms reduce the risk of fluid‐borne infections but don’t cover all skin. Herpes, HPV and syphilis spread through contact with uncovered areas or sores. Pubic lice, scabies and molluscum contagiosum also transfer via skin‐to‐skin contact. Viral shedding can occur even without visible symptoms. Condoms can slip, tear or be applied too late, increasing risk. Oral and anal sex carry their own risks—chlamydia, gonorrhoea, herpes, syphilis, hepatitis A, B and C can transmit during mouth, anal or vaginal contact if no barrier is used. Sharing sex toys without thorough cleaning can pass infections. For extra protection, consider internal condoms or dental dams during oral sex. Regular STI testing, honest partner communication and correct condom use are key to safer intimacy.
