Defence Minister Reveals ₦100,000 Salaries for Soldiers and Responds to Oyo Kidnap
The Defence Minister announced that Nigerian soldiers now earn a minimum monthly salary of ₦100,000, up from ₦49,000 when he took office. He also confirmed that meal provisions have improved to include meat and other essentials. Despite the increase in pay and better rations, he acknowledged that the military is still underfunded. He challenged claims by a social critic who shared edited images of poor food portions, insisting those posts misrepresented reality. Addressing the recent abduction of schoolchildren in Oyo State, he described the incident as very sad. He said the kidnappers are seeking leverage to force the release of detained insurgent commanders and have threatened to kill the children if security forces get too close.
