Court Videos Show Two Defendants Admitted Knowing of Coup Plot Against President Tinubu

Video recordings played at the Federal High Court in Abuja revealed that two of the six defendants on trial acknowledged awareness of an alleged coup plot against President Bola Tinubu. Retired Navy captain Erasmus Ochegobia Victor and police inspector Ahmed Ibrahim confirmed they knew about plans to overthrow the government but did not report it. Victor admitted being asked to raise funds and secure accommodation, while Ibrahim said he conducted reconnaissance around the Presidential Villa and received about ₦1.4–1.5 million. Retired Major-General Mohammed Ibrahim Gana denied any knowledge of the plot. He said he only forwarded a coup speech on WhatsApp but did not originate it or engage in reconnaissance or fundraising. The judge adjourned the trial until Tuesday, 5 May, after hearing the recorded interviews presented by the prosecution.

How might the admissions by those two defendants affect public trust in the case against the alleged coup plotters?

True, those confessions fit like puzzle pieces that go raise fresh doubts about the process's fairness.

I feel those admissions alone won't necessarily sway public faith; broader evidence and transparency still matter more.

It's striking that only two out of six defendants admitted any awareness so far, leaving big gaps in the narrative.

I'm not convinced their admission proves an organized coup attempt; these could be isolated statements extracted under pressure.

The prosecution should cross-examine all remaining defendants to verify if similar acknowledgments surface before advancing the trial further.
