Port Harcourt Police Re-Arrest Alleged Land Grabber After N1bn Property Destruction

Port Harcourt Police Re-Arrest Alleged Land Grabber After N1bn Property Destruction — 1 of 3
1 / 3

Police in Port Harcourt have re-arrested alleged land grabber Michael Amadi-Orwu following fresh directives from the Inspector-General of Police. He faces multiple charges after reportedly demolishing buildings and fencing on a property valued at over N1 billion along Airport Road. The complainant says Amadi-Orwu seized a 10,000 sqm site near Obirikwere flyover in 2021, destroying a bungalow, perimeter fencing and security installations. The land was then subdivided and allegedly sold to unsuspecting buyers, prompting a series of stalled investigations. The suspect is accused of threatening the owner’s life and claiming influence over police and judiciary officials in Rivers State. He allegedly boasted of having judges on his payroll and enjoying round-the-clock protection from security agencies and local gangs. Under the IGP Monitoring Unit, authorities are now moving to conclude investigations and prosecute him for malicious damage, trespass, fraud and land racketeering. This case highlights growing concerns over violent property disputes in rapidly expanding corridors of Rivers State.

What changes do you think the IGP's fresh directives will bring to land dispute enforcement in Port Harcourt?

How exactly will the IGP monitor officers' compliance with these new land dispute orders in Port Harcourt?

I dey wonder if new directives alone go change anything, especially without clearer guidelines and accountability measures in place for officers handling land disputes.

It's odd that someone could destroy buildings on a N1bn property and only be re-arrested after top directives.

We keep applauding re-arrests, but what about preventive measures to stop land grabbers before they demolish anything?

Property owners should immediately verify their land documents and report any unauthorized fencing to local police divisions.
