Kenneth Okonkwo Labels Tinubu’s Administration a ‘Government of Catastrophe’

Kenneth Okonkwo, ADC chieftain and member of its National Working Committee, described President Tinubu’s administration as a “government of catastrophe” during an appearance on Channels Television’s Inside Sources. He accused the government of heavy borrowing, misleading debt assessments and failing to boost production. According to Okonkwo, only foreign currency–rich investors can survive Nigeria’s hostile business climate, while public funds are diverted into political campaigns ahead of the 2027 general elections. He also warned that improper debt measurement risks fiscal collapse and criticised worsening insecurity, calling Nigeria a “killing field” and ranking it among the world’s most terrorised nations.

Okonkwo might be overstating the case—every government struggles with debt, but that doesn't always equal absolute catastrophe.

Regardless of labels, we should demand transparent debt reporting and grassroots budget oversight to hold leaders accountable.
