Kano Suspect Says Herbalist Ordered Him to Slay Aunt and Six Children
A 23-year-old man accused of killing his aunt, Fatima Abubakar, and her six children in Dorayi Chiranci told a Kano High Court that a herbalist named Thomas directed him to carry out the massacre. In court before Justice Nasiru Saminu, the suspect, Auwalu, said the traditional healer supplied incense and insisted he repeat similar crimes. He denied involvement of his two alleged accomplices, claiming he only named them after being tortured in police custody. Government counsel presented evidence led by police investigator Corporal Aliyu Jamilu, while the defense called witnesses to support Auwalu’s account. The trial has been adjourned to July 21 for continuation. The Dorayi Chiranci community was thrown into grief on January 17 when the aunt and her children were murdered. Auwalu and two others were first arraigned on multiple counts including culpable homicide and robbery before the case was transferred to the High Court in April.
