Kano Court Sentences 19-Year-Old Woman to Death for Husband’s Murder

A Kano High Court has sentenced 19-year-old Saudat Jibrin to death by hanging for the murder of her husband, Salisu Idris, nine days after their wedding. The court heard that the incident occurred on May 5, 2025, at Farawa Quarters, Kano. Prosecutors said Jibrin drugged Idris’s drink and later cut his throat with a knife. Justice Maryam Sabo ruled that the prosecution proved culpable homicide beyond reasonable doubt. Jibrin, who denied the allegation, has 90 days to appeal the judgment. Her lawyer asked the court for leniency, saying she had changed while in custody and that her younger siblings depend on her.
