Obi-Kwankwaso Ticket Has 70% Chance in 2027, Babachir Lawal Claims

Obi-Kwankwaso Ticket Has 70% Chance in 2027, Babachir Lawal Claims

Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation Babachir Lawal says a joint Peter Obi–Rabiu Kwankwaso presidential ticket could have a stronger chance in the 2027 election than separate bids. Speaking in a recent interview, Lawal estimated that an Obi-Kwankwaso ticket would have about a 70 per cent chance of winning. He put President Bola Tinubu’s chances at 50 per cent and said former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar would not win. Lawal argued that Obi and Kwankwaso would be more formidable as a pair, while separate campaigns could weaken their prospects. His comments follow his reported disagreement with Atiku and resignation from the African Democratic Congress.

What would make an Obi-Kwankwaso ticket stronger than separate bids: regional reach, party structure, or voter confidence?

I agree; combining different strengths could make the ticket feel more convincing than two separate runs.

Lawal's claim shows how much attention is already shifting toward possible alliances ahead of 2027.

A 70 percent chance sounds overly precise when no joint ticket or campaign arrangement has been confirmed.

If they are serious about a joint ticket, early talks on roles, party platform, and grassroots coordination would matter.
