10,000km Across Continents: Nigerian Cyclist’s London to Lagos Mission to End Polio
Captain Olatunji Emmanuel Okedeyi has embarked on a 10,000 km bicycle ride from London to Lagos to raise awareness and funds for polio eradication. He began the journey seven days ago and has already cycled through Paris, Madrid, Málaga and major cities in North Africa, overcoming tough roads and changing weather. Dubbed “London to Lagos: Two Wheels, One Mission to End Polio,” the project draws on his family’s healthcare background and his belief in health as a basic human right. Supporters can join the “Kilometre Club” by sponsoring each kilometre to fund vaccination programmes, cold-chain systems and rehabilitation for polio survivors. With backing from sponsors such as Prince Yinka Afonja of Ace Mall, Okedeyi hopes his ride will inspire continued vaccination in Nigeria, where wild poliovirus was declared eradicated in 2020 but remains a threat without ongoing immunisation.
