Arsenal’s Madueke Sidelined After 38 Minutes in England vs Uruguay Friendly

Arsenal’s Madueke Sidelined After 38 Minutes in England vs Uruguay Friendly — 1 of 4
1 / 4

Noni Madueke was forced off just 38 minutes into England’s 1-1 draw with Uruguay at Wembley after a collision in the penalty area left him in a knee brace. He had skipped past a defender before his shot was blocked and he crashed into Uruguay’s Rodrigo Aguirre. Madueke received several minutes of on-field treatment but could not continue. West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen replaced him shortly after the incident. The timing is a setback for the winger, who had hoped to use the international break to boost his case for England’s major tournament squad and return to Arsenal fit. After the match, he was seen limping through the mixed zone with his left leg heavily supported, suggesting he may head back to his club for a full assessment. His injury adds to Arsenal’s growing list of absences, which already includes Gabriel Magalhães, Eberechi Eze, William Saliba, Leandro Trossard, Jurrien Timber and Martin Ødegaard.

Trading a friendly win for a player's long-term health seems shortsighted, especially when Madueke's pace was critical before that collision.

Arsenal could ease him back into action through low-stakes matches or targeted training sessions with strict load monitoring on that knee.
