JAMB Re-arrests Suspect After Defrauding 131 UTME Candidates
Emmanuel Akataka, a member of an examination fraud syndicate, was re-arrested by JAMB after admitting he ran an online scheme that duped over 131 UTME candidates. He confessed earning millions, though the JAMB Registrar estimated his haul at more than ₦8 million. Akataka told reporters in Abuja that poverty and family pressure—his mother’s illness and his father’s death—drove him back into crime. He used multiple aliases and a fake platform, promising score boosts for payments between ₦5,000 and ₦8,000. Officials said Akataka employed AI tools and social media groups to lend credibility to his scheme. JAMB’s Director of Special Duties warned candidates against shortcuts and reiterated the board’s resolve to dismantle fraud networks and protect exam integrity.
