Police Crack Down on Transnational Trafficking Ring, Rescue 30 West African Migrants
The Nigeria Police Force has recorded a major breakthrough in the fight against transnational organised crime by dismantling a human trafficking and fraud syndicate operating in Abuja and neighbouring Nasarawa communities. The operation led to the rescue of 30 Malian nationals and the arrest of 13 suspects linked to the network. Investigations showed the syndicate lured vulnerable young people from Mali and Gabon with false promises of passage to Europe or lucrative jobs in Nigeria. Victims paid fees and were held in Mararaba and Karu under exploitative conditions. Those unable to meet additional demands were forced into staged “kidnappings” to extort ransom from relatives abroad. Acting on credible intelligence, the Intelligence Response Team raided hideouts on May 7 and apprehended the ringleader and his associates. The police reaffirm their commitment to ending human trafficking and ensuring all involved are brought to justice.
