Anambra Governor’s Wife Urges Boost in Funding to End Mother-to-Child HIV, Hepatitis and Syphilis

Anambra Governor’s Wife Urges Boost in Funding to End Mother-to-Child HIV, Hepatitis and Syphilis — 1 of 2
1 / 2

The wife of the Anambra State Governor has called on government and development partners to increase investment and unite stakeholders in eliminating mother-to-child transmission of HIV, Hepatitis B and Syphilis. She made the appeal at a high-level meeting on triple elimination in Awka, organised by the State Ministry of Health with national and international partners. The event highlighted preventive healthcare through early testing, timely treatment and follow-up during pregnancy. Addressing attendees, she praised the free antenatal care programme in public facilities, which offers screening and preventive services to thousands of pregnant women. She urged traditional and religious leaders to step up awareness campaigns and reduce stigma around these infections. Health officials, including the State Commissioner for Health and WHO representatives, reviewed progress and data on testing outcomes. They stressed actionable plans, stronger political will and resource mobilisation to sustain the agenda and protect future generations.
