Bounou Hails Morocco’s Control in 1-0 Win Over Scotland

Bounou Hails Morocco’s Control in 1-0 Win Over Scotland

Morocco edged Scotland 1-0 in their FIFA World Cup 2026 Group C opener in Boston. The Atlas Lions took the lead in the second minute when Ismael Saibari sprinted onto a Brahim Diaz pass and fired past Angus Gunn. It was the tournament’s fastest goal so far and Morocco’s quickest ever at a World Cup. Goalkeeper Yassine Bounou praised his teammates for their patience and discipline. “We played a very good game against a strong opponent,” he said. “We created the best chances and handled their low block well.” Morocco now turn their attention to Haiti in their final group match next Thursday.

How do you think Morocco's early goal shaped their confidence and strategy for the rest of the match against Scotland?

That opener must've lifted their spirits, letting them settle into a composed, disciplined game plan and dictate play.

A goal that early can unsettle opponents, but I'm not convinced Morocco maintained that level after the opener.

It's easy to praise Morocco's control, but Scotland could've adapted faster rather than just falling back.

Scotland might focus on tightening defensive transitions at training, especially in those opening minutes against quick counterattacks.
