Sowore Rejects Ibadan Opposition Summit, Calls for Genuine Alternative

Sowore Rejects Ibadan Opposition Summit, Calls for Genuine Alternative

Human rights activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore says he declined an invitation to the recent Opposition Summit in Ibadan. He argued that recycling the same politicians who presided over corruption and systemic decay will not deliver the change Nigerians need. Sowore and the African Action Congress will not join any alliance aimed at repackaging failed actors under the guise of opposition. Instead, the AAC is focused on building a people-driven movement rooted in integrity, accountability and genuine transformation. Sowore insists Nigeria needs a complete break from the old power blocs, not a reshuffle of broken pieces.

Do you think Sowore's call for a genuine alternative can unite grassroots movements rather than the usual political elites?

I totally feel you. Finally, someone talking about real grassroots power, not just elite wahala.

True grassroots unity sounds unlikely with entrenched elites, but demanding a real alternative could spark unexpected local collaboration.

It's interesting how rejecting an Ibadan summit highlights distrust in recycled leadership, yet no clear plan has emerged for real change.

I respect the principle, but refusing any coalition risks sidelining potential allies who might push for reform from within.

Perhaps focus on building local advocacy networks first, then propose fresh leadership models that avoid past corruption traps.
