El-Rufai’s Bail Bid Rejected as Court Extends ICPC Custody

El-Rufai’s Bail Bid Rejected as Court Extends ICPC Custody

A Kaduna State High Court has refused to grant bail to former governor Nasir El-Rufai. Justice Dirisu Khobo ruled that the application lacked merit and failed to present reliable evidence or exceptional circumstances for release. The court ordered that El-Rufai remain in the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission. It directed the ICPC to allow him unrestricted access to his medical team or any approved facility in Nigeria for treatment. El-Rufai is facing nine counts of alleged abuse of office and related offences. The case has been adjourned to July 7 and 8 for continuation of the hearing.

Lawyers on both sides should gather stronger evidence or mitigating factors before revisiting bail applications, especially in high-stakes corruption cases.
