Restored Lower Anambra Irrigation Station to Boost Year-Round Farming in Ayamelum

The Federal Government has reinforced its drive to secure food supplies with the handover of the rehabilitated Lower Anambra Irrigation Project pumping station in Ifite-Ogwari, Ayamelum LGA. Completed under the Agricultural Transformation Agenda Support Programme Phase One, the facility was handed over to the Anambra-Imo River Basin Development Authority. Over 2,000 hectares of farmland can now support multiple planting cycles each year. The upgrade included restoring the pumping station and lining 40.1 kilometres of canals. Funded by the African Development Bank and the Federal Government, with power support from the state, this project will expand dry-season farming, boost yields, create jobs and stimulate agribusiness across the Anambra River Basin.
