Over 3.3 Million Nigerians Displaced in 14 States, Borno Worst Affected

The National Bureau of Statistics reports that Nigeria recorded 3,381,228 internally displaced persons across 14 states in 2023. Borno State alone accounted for more than half of that figure, with 1.7 million residents uprooted by conflict and insecurity. Benue and Katsina followed with 394,567 and 244,380 displaced people respectively. Gombe, Nasarawa and Kano states reported the lowest numbers of displacement. The bulletin also puts Nigeria’s population at 221.25 million in 2023. It highlights rising maternal care spending and changes in antenatal coverage. Data on remittances shows the UK as the top source, while trafficking cases and private sector job listings were also detailed.
