Benue Governor Appeals to JAMB for Fresh UTME Date for Kidnapped Students
The Governor of Benue State, Hyacinth Alia, has urged JAMB to reschedule the UTME for eight students who were abducted last week along the Makurdi–Otukpo road. Those on board the bus included students and other passengers. Armed men attacked and took them into a nearby forest, where the Nigerian Army rescued the remaining victims in Ohimini LGA on Sunday after two others had escaped earlier. Governor Alia said security forces teamed up with local communities to secure their release. He is appealing for a new exam date to give the affected students another opportunity to sit for the UTME. JAMB and the police later clarified that the travellers were headed for a police recruitment exercise, not the UTME. Despite this, the governor maintains his plea for an exam reschedule.
