1 / 4

Operation Enduring Peace forces arrested two minors for grazing on restricted land in Riyom Local Government Area, Plateau State. At around 3pm on June 21, troops responded to reports of illegal grazing near Rim community. They found 10-year-old Ahmed Masaudu and 9-year-old Ibrahim Manu grazing in prohibited areas. Security sources confirm both boys, from Tafawa, are now in custody. Local leaders of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association in Riyom LGA have been alerted to help trace their guardians. Military authorities say the minors are being handled according to established procedures. Investigations are ongoing to identify those responsible for sending the children to the restricted area. Operation Enduring Peace continues regular patrols to prevent illegal grazing and reduce farmer-herder tensions across Plateau State.

Does this incident highlight a lack of clear grazing boundaries, or were those children simply unaware of the restricted land rules?

True, the grazing areas aren't clearly marked, so it's hard for anyone—especially kids—to know which land is off-limits.

It seems odd that two young children would intentionally breach restricted land without adult guidance or supervision.

Detaining minors feels heavy-handed when community outreach and clear grazing guidelines could prevent such incidents.
