Lagos Fire Service Saves N118.3bn in 2025, Caps Losses at N19.7bn
Lagos State emergency response teams saved over N118.3bn worth of property from fire outbreaks in 2025, the Commissioner for Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Relations revealed at a 2026 ministerial briefing. Properties valued at N19.7bn were lost, yielding a net protection value of about N98.6bn. Between January and December 2025, the Lagos Fire and Rescue Service handled 1,972 emergency calls, 1,685 of which were fire incidents. March recorded the highest monthly savings (N12.6bn) and losses (N2.1bn), while August had the lowest at N6.78bn saved and N1.13bn lost. The state rescued 473 people alive and recovered 133 victims deceased. To strengthen fire prevention and response, 8,791 facilities were inspected and 7,997 fire safety certificates issued. The government added 62 new firefighting vehicles and completed two fire station projects, with more stations under construction to improve emergency coverage.
