Calabar Flood Relief: Governor Otu Consoles Toddler’s Family, Orders Evacuation of Displaced Residents

Calabar Flood Relief: Governor Otu Consoles Toddler’s Family, Orders Evacuation of Displaced Residents

Governor Bassey Otu has toured flood- and landslide-affected neighbourhoods in Calabar, including the home of a toddler whose life was lost to rising waters. He was joined by CR-SEMA DG Efa Nyong, engineers, and representatives of the Nigerian Red Cross Society. During visits to Elijah Henshaw, Webber, Atu, Ibesikpo streets and Mayne Avenue, the governor met residents and business owners to offer condolences and reassurance. He praised CR-SEMA’s swift assessments and declared that evacuation of displaced residents would begin immediately under his “People’s First” agenda. CR-SEMA has been working closely with NEMA, the Red Cross, security agencies and relevant ministries to document losses and deliver relief materials. The agency will continue public sensitisation on flood preparedness and disaster risk reduction after four days of heavy rainfall that overwhelmed parts of the city.
