Why Are Obi and Kwankwaso Exiting ADC Over Ticket Demands?

Why did Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso decide to leave the African Democratic Congress? They seem to expect the presidential ticket without a fair contest. Since when does any serious party hand its top ticket to someone on demand? The real pain lies with the grassroots coalition that built this platform from scratch. Volunteers worked sleepless nights to set up structures, yet they never asked for a free pass. They aren’t even running for president. RMK only joined about a month ago and now everything that took months of sacrifice, patience and negotiation is at risk. This rushed push for favours could tear the coalition apart.

Did Obi and Kwankwaso really expect an uncontested ticket? How does this fit with typical party nomination rules?

True, party nominations always come with fierce contests, no freebies for big names.

So dem think ADC would hand them a ticket without any contests? Is that normal under party rules?

It's odd that seasoned politicians would push for ticket handover without any contest; this could undermine party cohesion in the long run.

Maybe they felt their grassroots support deserved recognition at the top, even if it sidesteps established nomination procedures.

They should advocate for clear internal primaries and transparent delegate selection to avoid future walkouts and maintain a united front.
