Building Trust: CP Tijani Unveils Lagos Lineup for National Police Week 2026 — 1 of 3
1 / 3

The Federal Police Week will run from Monday, 30th March to Tuesday, 7th April 2026 across all 36 states and the FCT, culminating in a grand finale at the Force Headquarters in Abuja. In Lagos, Commissioner of Police Fatai Tijani has announced a weeklong series of activities under the theme “Community Partnership, Building Trust.” Highlights include a sanitation exercise, free medical outreach, a fitness walkathon and public sensitization campaigns on electoral violence, cultism and road safety. Stakeholder engagements and cheque presentations to families of fallen officers will reinforce the police’s commitment to personnel welfare and community collaboration. Tijani stressed that mutual trust and cooperation are essential for effective crime prevention. He urged the media and residents to join the events and help strengthen the bond between the police and the public, affirming that a united approach is key to a safer society.

Yes, attending town hall meetings, filling feedback forms and joining local safety committees will help residents raise concerns directly.

Totally agreed. Participating in those community policing forums and sharing our experiences can really shape how police respond to local needs.

Announcing a lineup is one thing, but I've seen similar promises before without lasting community impact. Details on follow-through would help.

It's encouraging to build trust, but are we overemphasizing ceremonies instead of real reforms that tackle police misconduct and accountability?

To ensure real progress, community leaders could track public post-event reports and hold police units accountable to agreed benchmarks after the week.
