Adamawa Women Learn Sustainable Briquette Production to Boost Incomes and Preserve Forests
The National Council of Women’s Societies and the International Council of Women hosted a hands-on workshop at Adamawa State College of Education in Hong. Women from NCWS chapters and other local groups gathered to master eco-friendly briquette production. In her opening remarks, the NCWS National President highlighted the dangers of deforestation and praised Adamawa’s new ban on tree cutting. She explained how converting waste materials into cooking briquettes can cut firewood use, protect the ecosystem, and create new income streams for women. Participants practiced making briquettes from chaff, sawdust, rice husks, and other locally available waste using simple machines. The workshop also featured a session on sustainable tree planting and the donation of briquette presses to state chapters. Attendees pledged to share their skills and drive community development.
