JAMB Revises 2026 UTME Start Time to 7AM After Early Arrival Backlash

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has adjusted its 2026 UTME schedule following widespread complaints about very early arrival times and logistical challenges. Under the revised timetable, candidates for the first session will now arrive by 7:00AM instead of 6:30AM. The exam will run from 8:30AM to 10:30AM. Daily sittings from Monday to Thursday will still feature four sessions, and the Friday timetable now includes a reserved third session. Parents and candidates had raised concerns about safety and long waits after mock exams saw many arriving before dawn only to face delays and technical glitches. Some centres failed to start on time and network issues affected several candidates. In response to these problems, JAMB has also delisted over 20 computer-based test centres across 11 states for failing to meet technical standards. The board says these measures aim to ensure a smoother and more reliable main UTME process.

Do you think arriving at 7AM will ease candidates' stress compared to the original 6:30AM schedule?

Would candidates feel noticeably less anxious with that extra thirty minutes in the morning?

It feels like a minimal change though, shifting just thirty minutes doesn't solve deeper logistical issues at most exam centres.

I doubt the thirty-minute shift tackles the real problems, such as insufficient seating capacity and erratic local transport schedules.

Candidates should plan to arrive at least an hour early regardless, so they can clear any security checks and find their exam rooms on time.
