World Cup Spotlight: How Lumumba Junior Kept DR Congo’s Mascot Tradition Alive
DR Congo’s famous “living statue” fan Lumumba Vea missed the Round of 32 match against England after his visa was denied. To keep the tradition alive, Lumumba Junior (Kabwende) stepped into the stands in Atlanta. He said he was proud to carry on the legacy of liberty, prosperity and freedom symbolised by Patrice Lumumba. DR Congo’s Ambassador to the US praised Junior as the perfect Generation Z supporter.
