2026 Budget: ₦29.59bn Streetlight and Electrification Projects Listed Under Enugu College

2026 Budget: ₦29.59bn Streetlight and Electrification Projects Listed Under Enugu College

A review of the 2026 Appropriation Act shows that the Federal Co-operative College, Oji River, Enugu State, was allocated ₦226.77 billion, including ₦225.63 billion for capital projects. About ₦29.59 billion of the allocation is listed for solar street lights, transformers, rural electrification, mini-grids and related projects in communities across Nigeria. The projects cover states including Enugu, Rivers, Ogun, Ekiti, Anambra, Imo, Osun, Cross River, Katsina and others. The college's stated role is cooperative education and management training. Critics argue that assigning it nationwide electricity and infrastructure projects falls outside its mandate, weakens accountability and could make oversight of the funds more difficult. The allocations appear in the approved 2026 budget document, with individual projects ranging from millions of naira to more than ₦1 billion.

Exactly, that budget listing deserves plenty of raised eyebrows. College matter somehow don turn electrification headquarters.

The gap between the college's core purpose and the scale of the listed capital projects is what stands out here.

Electrification projects can support surrounding communities, but the budget should clearly explain why they sit under this particular institution.

Publish project locations, costs, contractors, and completion timelines so residents and lawmakers can track whether the allocation delivers anything.
