Oyo State Government Denies Paying Ransom for Oriire Abductees

Oyo State Government Denies Paying Ransom for Oriire Abductees

The Oyo State Government has dismissed claims that it paid ransom to free schoolchildren and teachers kidnapped in Oriire Local Government Area a month ago. Officials say no payment was made and accuse some bloggers of spreading misinformation. The Commissioner for Information stated that the state and federal governments are collaborating with security agencies to secure the captives’ release. He urged the public to rely only on official statements. On May 15, more than 40 pupils and seven teachers were abducted from three schools in Ahoro-Esinele and Yawota. The incident sparked nationwide protests demanding urgent government action. The military has blamed Boko Haram, and the president remains committed to their safe return.
