US Seeks to Revoke Citizenship of Three Nigerians Over Alleged Immigration Fraud

The United States Department of Justice has filed civil denaturalisation cases against 25 people, including three Nigerian-born US citizens, over allegations that they obtained citizenship through fraud, concealed identities or material misrepresentation. The cases involve Jonathan Omorogieva Obasohan, Yetunde Folake Olaniyi and Vivian Chike Obichere. According to the Justice Department, the allegations include using false identities, concealing deportation orders, entering a sham marriage and making false statements during immigration and naturalisation proceedings. The complaints were filed between July 20 and August 3, 2026, in federal courts in Massachusetts, Maryland and California. The defendants face possible revocation of their US citizenship if the courts uphold the government's claims. The Justice Department said it has filed 123 civil denaturalisation complaints since January 2025, describing the latest actions as its largest coordinated denaturalisation effort to date.
