BTS Returns with 'ARIRANG', Smashes Decade-Long Group Sales Record

BTS Returns with 'ARIRANG', Smashes Decade-Long Group Sales Record

BTS made a triumphant comeback on March 20 with ARIRANG, their first album after completing South Korea’s mandatory military service. They sold 641,000 equivalent units in week one, the strongest group opening since streaming-adjusted tracking began in 2014, and topped both the Billboard 200 and the Hot 100 with lead single “SWIM.” Pure album sales reached 532,000 copies—surpassing One Direction’s 2013 record—while vinyl collectors accounted for 208,000 units. The album title ARIRANG nods to Korea’s most beloved folk song, capturing themes of sorrow, endurance and joy after a long absence. All seven members finished their service between December 2022 and June 2025. Group leader RM described this moment as more than a commercial comeback—it’s a homecoming. Fans around the world joined the livestreamed concert in Seoul, setting the stage for a world tour that begins in April.

I'm cautiously hopeful, though I wonder if they can outdo that impressive first week again.

Selling over 640,000 equivalent units in one week is impressive, but streaming metrics have evolved so much since 2014.

I'm not sure record sales tell the full story of artistic growth or fan engagement beyond numbers.

If you're curious about ARIRANG's impact, compare weekly streaming and sales figures across top artists to gauge real momentum.
