Court Denies Sowore’s Recusal Request, Remands Him in Kuje Prison
Human rights activist and AAC presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has been remanded at Kuje Correctional Centre until Wednesday. Justice Mohammed Umar of the Federal High Court in Abuja revoked his bail last week and rejected Sowore’s bid to recuse the judge. The court dismissed Sowore’s application over his public remarks describing President Tinubu as a “criminal,” charges he continues to deny. In June, Sowore’s legal team withdrew from the case, citing persistent hostility from the bench. After representing himself at Monday’s hearing, Sowore filed a fresh motion asking Justice Umar to step down, accusing the judge of unfair treatment. Sowore awaits the court’s decision on his new recusal application.
