A Federal High Court in Abuja has sentenced 37-year-old Zakaria Garba to death by hanging for his role in the 2014 Nyanya Motor Park bombings that killed over 70 people and injured many others. Justice James Omotosho also handed Garba a life term on a separate terrorism count, as well as 35-year jail terms on two additional charges. In all, he faces two death sentences, one life sentence, and two lengthy prison terms. Other suspects received varied sentences: Ali Mohammed got 25 and 15 years; Isa Saleh and Tujan Mohammed each received 20 years; and Salisu Bala was sentenced to 20 years on one count and acquitted on others. The Attorney-General said the government remains determined to stamp out terrorism and make Nigeria safe for all citizens.
