US and Israel Confirm Killing of Iran’s Top Intelligence Chief
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced that Major General Majid Khademi was killed at dawn on April 6 in a joint US-Israeli strike. Israel’s defence minister later called Khademi one of the IRGC’s three most senior figures and directly responsible for attacks on Israeli citizens. Days earlier, the US president had given Iran 48 hours to agree to a deal or risk the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. He followed up on social media with explicit threats of widespread attacks on Iran’s infrastructure if the deadline was missed. In response, Iran’s top military command warned that any further strikes on civilian targets would trigger “much more devastating and widespread” retaliation. Legal experts have noted that deliberately targeting civilian infrastructure could constitute a war crime.
