Zimbabwean Man Jailed for Spending Wife’s US$1,800 Savings
A Bulawayo man, Trymore Shoko, has been sentenced to 12 months in prison after a court found that he spent US$1,800 his wife gave him to keep for her. The court heard that his wife, Thembelihle Mercy Mabhena, handed him money in instalments between December and May. When she asked for it on May 13, he allegedly could not return it, leading her to report the matter to police. Six months of the sentence were suspended for five years. The other six months were suspended on the condition that he repays the US$1,800 by July 17. If he fails to pay, he could serve the custodial term.
