PRP, APC and NNPP Leaders Defect to NDC in Major Political Shift

PRP, APC and NNPP Leaders Defect to NDC in Major Political Shift — 1 of 3
1 / 3

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has expanded its ranks ahead of the 2027 elections by formally welcoming former PRP Deputy National Chairman Comrade Babatunde F. Alli, NNPP’s 2023 Taraba governorship candidate Prof. Mohammed Sani Yahaya, and ex-House member Hon. Ehiozuwa Johnson Agbonayinma at a reception in Abuja. National Leader Senator Henry Seriake Dickson and National Chairman Senator Moses Cleopas presented the new members with NDC fez caps and official membership cards. Party leaders described the turnout as a growing wave of confidence in the NDC’s vision for national renewal and inclusive governance. Comrade Alli said he left the PRP after reflecting on weakened internal processes and now believes the NDC can deliver fairness and youth participation. Prof. Yahaya pledged to mobilise support from the grassroots in Taraba, declaring, “Insha’Allah, 2027 is our time.” Hon. Agbonayinma lamented the country’s challenges and affirmed that the NDC offers a credible platform to confront corruption and rebuild trust. The event underscores the party’s efforts to strengthen its national structure ahead of the next general elections.

How do you think the defection of these PRP, APC and NNPP leaders will reshape NDC's strategy ahead of the 2027 polls?

Defections alone no fit change much, NDC still need strong manifesto and ground game.

It's interesting that NDC targets big names like Alli and Yahaya, but will this really translate into grassroots support across Nigeria?

I'm not convinced a few high-profile defections will change voter sentiment when economic concerns remain unaddressed.

Focus on how NDC could integrate these new members into local campaign teams to maximise their influence on the ground.
