Snake Bite Prompts MMAB Foundation to Build Safe Toilets for Rural Schoolchildren

Snake Bite Prompts MMAB Foundation to Build Safe Toilets for Rural Schoolchildren — 1 of 4
1 / 4

For many children, school should be a safe place. But when a young girl in a rural community was bitten by a snake just trying to reach her classroom, Barrister Stella Bello knew action was needed. Through the Moses Mary Abu Bello Family Foundation (MMAB Foundation), she launched the ‘Children Deserve Safety Too’ initiative and delivered a new two-in-one toilet facility at Eyindudu Primary and Secondary School. Dedicated to the legacies of Hajiya Hawawu Oziohu and Hajiya Rabiat Bello, the project offers students greater safety, dignity and peace of mind every day. Barrister Bello describes this as Phase One of a broader plan to improve learning environments in underserved areas and calls on everyone to help build safer schools and brighter futures for all children.

Local schools can conduct simple risk assessments around classrooms, identify high-risk areas for snakes, and work with volunteers to clear vegetation regularly.
