Thai Police Arrest Three Nigerians and Thai Woman in Pattaya Romance Scam Raid

Thai Police Arrest Three Nigerians and Thai Woman in Pattaya Romance Scam Raid — 1 of 7
1 / 7

Thai police in Pattaya arrested three Nigerian men and a 41-year-old Thai woman during a hotel raid on April 28. Officers seized 12 mobile phones and uncovered a network of 12 bank mule accounts used to move illicit funds. Investigators say the group targeted victims through online romance scams, persuading transfers into accounts controlled by the syndicate. The Thai suspect recruited local bank accounts and handled withdrawals, earning up to 30,000 baht per day. All four have been charged under Thailand’s Technology Crime Prevention and Suppression Act for facilitating criminal banking activity and participating in an organised crime network. Authorities continue probing to identify more members and trace the wider financial flow.

It's revealing that investigators found 12 bank mule accounts and a dozen phones. Seems pretty organized for a small gang.

Actually, this story might distract from local scams that we deal with daily. We shouldn't ignore our own community issues.

People should double-check any online romantic interest's background before sending money, especially when dealing with foreign contacts.
