Northern Christians Demand Explanation for Disparity in 2026 Church vs Mosque Budget Allocation

Northern Christians Demand Explanation for Disparity in 2026 Church vs Mosque Budget Allocation

The Northern Christian Association has urged the Federal Government to justify why only N1.91 billion was allocated to seven church projects, while N6.14 billion was earmarked for 52 mosque projects in the proposed N8.05 billion religious budget for 2026. The group insists that public funds must follow constitutional principles of equity, transparency and justice. In a recent statement, the association’s chairman highlighted how persistent inequalities in government decisions fuel division and distrust among citizens. He warned that Christians’ continued restraint for national peace should not be misinterpreted as weakness. The NCA emphasised that the Constitution recognises all Nigerians as equal before the law and called on the government to avoid actions suggesting preferential treatment for any religious community. It challenged the authorities to explain this imbalance and launch programmes that foster unity and strengthen our collective identity.

Are we sure both figures cover similar project scopes, or could differences in scale be skewing that allocation comparison?
