How I Moved from Nigeria to Rwanda, Germany and the UK Through My Job
I left Nigeria in March 2020 as a product designer and first moved to Rwanda on a company transfer. After nearly two years there, I secured a role in Germany via LinkedIn sponsorship. A later internal switch and a successful Tech Nation visa application brought me to the UK. My visa moves relied on payslips, employment letters and company relocation support, though I covered most travel and accommodation costs myself. I learned early that negotiating relocation packages and understanding post-tax salary makes a big difference. Living abroad had its highs and lows—from Rwanda’s safe, clean streets and slow pace, to Germany’s strict paperwork, language barrier and icy winters, to building a community in London. My advice: research perks like travel stipends, housing allowances and learning budgets before you sign that contract.
