Umeh Alleges PMP Is Being Used to Bar NDC from 2027 Elections
Victor Umeh, senator for Anambra Central, says the Peace Movement Party (PMP) is being used to block the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) from contesting the 2027 general elections. Speaking on Arise Television’s Prime Time, Umeh argued the PMP’s victory-sign logo is a global symbol, not exclusive to any party. He pointed out that when he and other leaders joined the NDC on May 3, an application was filed the very next day to challenge the party’s registration, despite it having been registered months earlier. He explained that only the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) can grant exclusive rights to a party logo upon official registration. Once approved, no other organization may adopt that symbol. Umeh’s remarks follow a Federal High Court decision in Lokoja that set aside an earlier order directing INEC to register the NDC.
