Former Senator Usman Bayero Nafada Quits PDP After APC Leaders’ Visit

Former Senator Usman Bayero Nafada Quits PDP After APC Leaders’ Visit

Former Senator representing Gombe North and ex-Deputy Speaker of the House, Usman Bayero Nafada, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party. He cited the party’s ongoing internal crises and leadership disputes as reasons for his departure. Nafada submitted a resignation letter dated July 12, 2026, to his ward’s PDP chairman, effective immediately. In it, he thanked the party for the platform that shaped his two-decade political journey. His exit follows a courtesy visit by the national APC chairman and Gombe State governor alongside the APC governorship candidate and other party leaders. Discussions centred on unity, stability and Gombe’s future. Nafada has not yet officially declared a new party affiliation, though strong indications point to a move to the ruling All Progressives Congress.

True, internal feuds seem to chase away top names, even if some insist that's overstated.

This resignation might reflect personal ambition rather than a real push for party reform.

Local PDP chapters should probably set up conflict resolution teams before more key members leave.
