Kogi State Bans Lavish Nursery and Primary Graduations, Warns of School Closures
Kogi State Government has reiterated its ban on graduation ceremonies for nursery, primary and junior secondary pupils. Any school that ignores the directive risks being shut down. Commissioner for Education Wemi Jones explained the policy aims to protect parents from the high costs of elaborate school celebrations. He clarified that only students completing Senior Secondary School Three may hold formal events such as Speech and Prize Giving Day. The government says it has issued official letters, conducted school visits and used radio announcements to communicate the rule. Defiant schools will be closed, and additional security measures are in place to safeguard students as the annual school census approaches.
